Painting landscapes for the local shelter was so grounding yet energizing that I am continuing by painting commissioned portraits of private favorite ecosystems.
Working from emailed images, I produce paintings as stories such as the one shown (left), "The Return," and the following commission, "Respite."
As of 2020, it is safe to say that any work I create has been at least 70 years in the making! In terms of immediate time frames per new works: Regardless of the painting's size, one should expect at least one month of working hours and two weeks for shipping. Six weeks is the minimum. If there are deadlines for receipt of the finished work, such as important event oriented presentations of the artwork, extra time should be allowed for assurances.
Of course, that varies, depending upon size, detail included, etc. A rough guideline is as follows:
11X14 inches - approximately 2,000.00;
18X24 inches (such as the one below) to 22X23 inches - approximately 3,000.00;
and continuing to 48X60 inches - approximately 7,000.00.
50% deposit is usually required to begin the work and the balance is due upon the client's approval of a JPEG of the final work. Full payment is due before shipping.
Shipping may be additional and depends upon value, weight and distance.
Yes. Absolutely. I send out periodic emailed snapshots of the work in progress to make sure it is on the right track according to what the client would like to include in the image and to permit the client to enjoy the journey with me.
"Respite,"an 18X24 inch acrylic painting on board, was created from a series of photographs, emailed as JPEGs, ranging from full view shots to details of flowers and the dog to be included. The final composition may be mine, but the story the portrait tells is theirs.
